It started to slow down and become unresponsive, constantly getting the Apple spinning wheel, it became unusable in the end, taking minutes to process the simplest of tasks and over 20 minutes to boot into the OS.![]()

The internal 3TB rotary drive was swapped out for a 4TB Solid-State hard drive and recovered from a recent backup. The new drive was mounted in a 3.5" caddy, the adhesive seal strips were replaced and the screen was carefully replaced.![]()

It now takes just under ten seconds to get to the login screen and all the apps start at lightning speed, this is one of the best upgrades for any iMac with an older-style rotary drive, it's like a new machine.
